If your site is primarily content-driven a blog, a marketing site with frequent updates, or a business that wants non-technical staff publishing changes a well-built WordPress site with a custom theme can be the faster, more cost-effective choice. It's a mature ecosystem with strong plugin support for common needs.

When a Custom Build Is Worth It

If your site needs custom user flows, tight performance requirements, complex integrations, or functionality that doesn't map cleanly to existing plugins, a custom build on React or Next.js gives you full control without fighting against a CMS's assumptions. It also tends to scale better as requirements grow.

The Maintenance Question

WordPress sites need regular plugin and core updates to stay secure that's an ongoing responsibility, whether handled in-house or through a support contract. Custom builds shift maintenance toward code updates and dependency management instead, which is a different kind of ongoing care, not necessarily less of it.
